6th March 2011: Do we live in a fractured community?

Challenged by the video from Conspiracy of Freedom we discussed our society's obsession with having more. More stuff, bigger stuff, better stuff. Is more better, or do our desires for the latest and greatest cost us the really important things in life, contributing to the breaking up of our society - our families, our communities, our country.
It is great to have easy access to what we need and the resources to get it. But maybe this fuels our expectations, creating an unsustainable high. In other parts of the world where people can't or don't live like this, communities are still broken. So are these desires really all that bad? How do we choose how to live whether we have more or less?
Some of the ideas we had.......... Don't compare yourself with others. Make sure you have time to enjoy the things that are important to you. Don't be afraid to stand out in a crowd and even model change to those around you. Decide where your treasure is and invest wisely. Love God and love each other.
Any other ideas?

Lent 2010

St Georges Cafe Church began in February 2010 and continued throughout Lent - you can see us supping tea and munching away in this picture.

We invited a different speaker each week to reflect on traditional Lent readings, covering topics such as generosity, charity, spontaneity, enjoying yourself and lots more. Here is some of the feedback from our time together:

'Lovely environment and opportunity to be in church in an informal way and discuss varied subjects with people you may not normally discuss them with'... 'Good way to end the weekend and prepare for the week ahead'... 'Cakes - 10/10!'... 'Time to catch up with friends and meet new people'... 'Relevant and challenging discussions'

There seemed to be a real desire to meet together and talk over life's questions and thats why we decided to continue it this year, but on a regular basis. This blog is a place where we can continue to meet, comment and continue the discussion. We can share the ideas and principles we think about both during Cafe Church discussions and our daily lives that help us live our lives to the full! Please feel free to comment and forward this blog to anyone who might like to join in.

Celebrate Passover

St Georges Church, Wolverton, Sat 9 April, 2:00-4:30pm

Participate in the Passover meal as experienced by the Jewish people throughout antiquity, and discover how this story has been fulfilled in Jesus. We'll share a meal together, sing and hear the testimony of how Jesus has changed the life of special guest Martin Furman.

To make sure you're catered for please email us or see Jonathan.
If you don't let us know you want to come, you won't get fed! There is no charge but there will be a chance to give donations towards the cost of the event.

Wolverton Cafe Church is back!

After a year off, Cafe Church is back! We had such a good time together during lent 2010 that we are now meeting on the first Sunday evening of every month.

To keep things interesting there are a whole lot of different themes planned for discussion with films, talks and food to fuel our thinking. A bit less formal this time round we're going to lead discussions ourselves and only get speakers in when we want to - but if we've missed a trick, feel free to put forward any ideas you have.
Here's to a great year ahead of living life to the full, enjoying ourselves and making new friends.
