6th March 2011: Do we live in a fractured community?

Challenged by the video from Conspiracy of Freedom we discussed our society's obsession with having more. More stuff, bigger stuff, better stuff. Is more better, or do our desires for the latest and greatest cost us the really important things in life, contributing to the breaking up of our society - our families, our communities, our country.
It is great to have easy access to what we need and the resources to get it. But maybe this fuels our expectations, creating an unsustainable high. In other parts of the world where people can't or don't live like this, communities are still broken. So are these desires really all that bad? How do we choose how to live whether we have more or less?
Some of the ideas we had.......... Don't compare yourself with others. Make sure you have time to enjoy the things that are important to you. Don't be afraid to stand out in a crowd and even model change to those around you. Decide where your treasure is and invest wisely. Love God and love each other.
Any other ideas?
